Working with film production company Sherbet and director Laurie J Proud the script co-written by John Malkovich and the users of the Online Script Project was turned into a short film and posted on the script project site to complete the campaign. Snow Angel received over 20,000 views in the first week. I think John liked it.

What had started as an innocent tourist adventure, ended up as 101 terrifying days of captivity.

Eleven months after his release Mark received an email from one of his kidnappers. What followed was a five year correspondence that eventually drew Mark back to the one part of the world he thought he’d never see again.

My Kidnapper is a documentary film that follows Mark and three of his fellow hostages as they return to the Sierra Nevada mountains in northern Colombia, the place where they lived out their worst nightmares. As they travel deeper into the jungle they discover the truth behind what happened to them, understand more about how they all dealt with the ordeal and eventually come face to face with their kidnappers.

The Ruffian on the Stair by Joe Orton
In a seedy London bedsit, Joyce rears goldfish and Mike plans business meetings in public lavatories.  One day, an unassuming young man knocks on their door looking for lodgings and begins a chain of events that can only end in tragedy - Wilson wants justice and he will stop at nothing to get it.

Bobby Gould in Hell by David Mamet.
In the antechamber to Hell, the conniving movie mogul from Speed The Plow is called to account for his misdeeds by the idiosyncratic Interrogator and his Assistant. Bobby is utterly convinced of his essential goodness, until the appearance of his ex-girlfriend as witness for the prosecution…

The campaign had to prove that the S700 takes quality images and that the phone looks and behaves like a real digital camera.

A minimalist 3D art gallery displayed photos taken by the S700 so that users could ‘wander’ through the gallery and experience the quality of the camera images straight from the phone. The 3D environment was built long before technologies like Papervision were available and so was rendered in Swift 3D and controled by Actionscript.

The gallery was also populated with visitors who showed the S700 in-use as a camera, phone and media device. The S700 itself was presented as a work of art in its own right, mounted on display plinths.

The lead agency Fallon had worked with John Malkovich to produce a series of short films to offer a window into John's life and his relationship with his Vaio. I worked as Design Director on the complimentary digital experience designing a site which grew over 5 months to showcase short films, audio clips, interviews with John, photography and product information.

The central theme of the site was the Online Script Project. John wrote the opening scene of a short film and users were invited to write the next scene. Users could vote on submitted scripts to form a shortlist and each month John gave his feedback and chose a winning script. A new chapter was added and the process began again.

The site is no longer live, but there's a slightly buggy archive version here

The site received hundreds of script submissions every month and as it became populated with new content every month offered an intriguing and inspirational window into the life of John Malkovich.

The finished script was turned into an animated film called Snow Angel
